To keep pace with technological development and increasing demand, the Hager Group decided to expand their production building for modular electrical protection devices. The new premises provide an ultra-clean and high-precision environment, essential for the production of relays.

The programme of the new building extends over two floors, with production halls situated at ground level. The office level on the upper floor is broken up by three green patios, which provide natural lighting for the deeper office spaces and offer outdoor areas for informal meetings or short breaks. The exposed internal steel structure emphasises the industrial character of the building. As the main beams are located between the factory hall on the ground floor and the offices on the first floor, a technical level could be inserted into this zone, which acts as the backbone of the building.

The precision that determines the processes within the walls is also evident in the façade design. The production level is clad with perforated metal cassettes that filter the light, while the office space on the first floor is clearly identified by a continuous band of windows cut into the reflective, irregularly folded metal cladding of the upper floor volume.

The metal and glass façades of the Hager Forum, which was completed in 2015, have established a new family of materials in the area. The site was previously dominated by buildings clad predominantly with precast concrete elements. The new factory extension combines the two material families and thus establishes a continuity of design on the Hager campus.
